Memory and logic manufacturing and R&D
The Hwaseong campus holds V1, which Samsung calls its first semiconductor production line dedicated to extreme ultraviolet lithography, making chips at the 7 nanometer node and below. V1 broke ground in February 2018 and began test wafer production in the second half of 2019, and at the mass production announcement Samsung said the line was producing mobile chips on 7 and 6nm process technology and would adopt finer circuitry up to the 3nm process node. At the groundbreaking Samsung’s President and CEO of Device Solutions said that with the new EUV line Hwaseong would become the center of the company’s semiconductor cluster spanning Giheung, Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek in Korea.
The facility, V1, is Samsung’s first semiconductor production line dedicated to the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology and produces chips using process node of 7 nanometer (nm) and below.
