# RamRadar RAM Price Index

> The average retail price of a gigabyte of DDR5 and DDR4 memory, as desktop DIMMs and laptop SODIMMs, computed daily by RamRadar from the kits in stock at eBay, Newegg and B&H Photo, shown whole since October 2025 under RamRadar’s citation terms.

## What it measures

The average retail price of one gigabyte of memory, in US dollars, for four kinds of kit: DDR5 and DDR4, each as a desktop DIMM and as a laptop SODIMM. It is an asking price for client memory, computed from the kits in stock at eBay, Newegg and B&H Photo on the day, each at its lowest live price, and not a spot print for the chips inside the kits, which DRAMeXchange publishes and which is what a module maker pays.

It is shown because its terms allow it. Every other daily DRAM series in public needs its publisher’s consent to display, and this one asks only for a citation and a link, so it is the client-memory row while the server-memory spot table waits. A gigabyte of DDR5 in a retail kit and a 16Gb DDR5 chip on the spot table are the same silicon at two ends of the chain, and the gap between them, once both are shown, is the module, the retailer and the day’s shortage premium.

The series carries the 2026 shortage from the retail side. DDR5 desktop memory was $7.59 a gigabyte on 24 November 2025, the first day the file has a DDR5 desktop kit, and $17.67 on 10 September 2026, its highest day; DDR4 desktop memory went from $4.72 a gigabyte on 21 October 2025 to $7.95, having peaked at $8.76 in April. Laptop memory moved the same way at a smaller scale.

The early days are thin. The first DDR4 desktop reading was computed over one kit and thirty-five of the 325 DDR4 desktop days over fewer than five; the DDR5 series begins later and thickens faster, and every recent day counts between sixty and a hundred and eighty kits. The kit count is stored beside every reading and a reader should weigh a one-kit day accordingly.

## How it is built

By RamRadar, from retail listings. In the publisher's words: “Each day, every in-stock kit RamRadar tracks is normalized to USD price per gigabyte using the lowest live retailer price for that kit.” The kits come from eBay, Newegg, B&H Photo, weighted by what each carries rather than evenly, and the mean, the median and a winsorized 5th to 95th percentile band are recorded per memory type and form factor, every day.

GPUQuant reads the publisher's CSV, which carries the whole series, and draws the mean. The winsorized band and the number of kits behind each day are stored beside it, because the early days of a series were computed over one or two kits and a reader is entitled to know that. Nothing is computed from the figures: a day is drawn as the file states it.
